Childhood obesity is a mjor problem not only to North Carolina but in other states as well often caused by sedentary lifestyle. In order to combat the problem, Ashe County Middle School is trying out a solution called "HOPSports" where it promotes healthy and active lifestyles for the youth by implementing various physical activities that will encourage movement, providing nutrition and diet education and at the same time entertaining.

Most of the activities includes childsplay stuffs like jump rope techniques, dancing, mat tumbling and balancing exercises which was not available in formal education systems in the past. More on the link below.

Purdue Space Day

Having kids learn how to create scientific experiments do not only boost their scientific knowledge. It also allows them to improve on skills that they will need as they get along in life, such as keen observation and patience.
